Orthodontic Retainers
Customised retainers are the final step in your orthodontic treatment. They play an important role in keeping your teeth in their correct positions, helping to maintain the results of your treatment and supporting long-term oral health. Our team will guide you on how to use and care for them so they fit comfortably into your daily routine.
What is the Recommended Frequency for Wearing my Removable Retainer?
During the first two years after your orthodontic treatment, retainers help keep your teeth in their correct positions. While every patient’s needs are different, our standard ‘Retainer Protocol’ usually involves wearing removable retainers each night for 10–12 hours to support long-term alignment.
After two years, your teeth and gums start to stabilise, and we will help you find a routine that suits you best. This usually involves wearing your retainer one to two nights per week and helps maintain the results of your orthodontic treatment over the long term.
Remember, orthodontic treatment is a long-term journey, and by following our guidance, you can help keep your teeth well-aligned and maintain the results of your treatment for years to come.
We also offer alternative treatment options, including Clear Aligners, Lingual Braces and Braces
Removable Orthodontic Retainers
Removable retainers are perfect for when you want to make cleaning your teeth and flossing easier, especially during teenage orthodontic treatment. One set of clear Essix retainers is included in all comprehensive orthodontic treatment plans, ensuring that your smile stays in great shape.
Fixed Wire Orthodontic Retainers
For most patients, our white gold fixed wire retainers provide a reliable way to maintain teeth alignment and support the long-term results of your orthodontic treatment.
Typically attached to the back of your front anterior teeth, these discreet retainers work diligently behind the scenes.
To further enhance the effectiveness of our fixed wire retainers, we may also combine them with a clear plastic removable Essix retainer. This dual approach ensures comprehensive support for teeth that are more susceptible to movement over time.
Fixed wire retainers can form part of your orthodontic aftercare, helping to maintain teeth alignment and support long-term stability. They are designed to reduce the risk of unwanted tooth movement over time.
